Unexpectedly and disappointingly Winterton Rangers have decided to end their youth policy after only one season and have cancelled the under 19's team.
Although gutted not to be able to play in Winterton anymore, the team would like to say a big thank you to the residents of Winterton and the surrounding villages for taking the team to their hearts.
Thursday night home matches saw crowds of over 100 fans turn out to watch the youngsters, resulting in the West Street ground becoming a fortress and the team only losing at home twice all season. The most memorable match was probably against a very physical Goole team in a local derby, when the crowd roared the youngsters to a 3-2 win, then stayed behind to cheer them off the pitch.
Thanks also go to local volunteers who helped out on match days and to Winterton Iron for their sponsorship of the team proving they are a true community club who believe in the youth of this area.
The good news is that following this disappointment the team has been given a new home by Barton Town Old boys and the majority of last season’s team has transferred across to the 'Euronics ground' where the boys will continue to play in the Northern Alliance u19 mid week league. The first league match at their new home is on Thursday 19 September 19:45 K.O against last year’s league winner Westella & Willerby (HULL). The boys and management would love to see you down there to create a new home fortress!
