"Historic Horkstow Bridge over the River Ancholme has been re-opened by the Environment Agency after a report confirmed that it was safe for vehicles up to 3 tonnes to drive over.
Testing of the damaged area of the bridge after a car fire earlier in the year has shown that there was no weakening or cracking of the suspension cables, demonstrating that the bridge is still structurally sound.
Some remedial work will be needed to the grade 2 listed structure including repainting damaged areas and raising the stone housing where the suspension cables anchor into the ground.
Given the historic status of the bridge, planning and consent will be needed as well as available funds before any work can be carried out."
